Who we are
We are Conran Design Group. We were created (in 1957) with one goal in mind – to make design more widely accessible, relevant and useful.
In today’s context, we believe that this means design should be more than the output or the aesthetic. It can and should be used throughout the process to surface issues and challenges and build consensus.
When used in this way design becomes more powerful for those involved in the process and helps to deliver more meaningful experiences for those it connects with. It has the ability to satisfy both rational and emotional needs and make those experiences more personally relevant.
In this way, design can drive innovation, change behaviour and add measurable commercial value.
This is working By Design, rather than simply delivering design.
What we do
The way we work is as important to us as the work itself. We have a working ethos of co-creation. We encourage our clients to be part of the process and engaged in the creative direction of their projects. This helps to gain internal support and help ensure a successful solution.

Designers in this area deal with the way a company communicates who it is and what it does, defining a differentiated proposition for the business. They will typically develop an identity system that will include a logo, typeface, colour palette and any photography or imagery required.
Digital design deals with the way a business is expressed online. Increasingly, digital designers will also be able to develop phone applications and other access media applications. This sector will also help develop everything from powerful presentations to CD ROMs and digital media for customer use.
Interior design will cover everything from retail and office space to large public spaces and design for domestic spaces. Typically interiors designers will get involved with the entire fit-out process.
Packaging design includes labelling and protective covers as well as the actual box, carton or pack the product arrives in. Some packaging designers also deal with point-of-sale materials such as the retail unit that may display the packaged goods in store.
Graphic design deals mainly with two-dimensional design or what is sometimes referred to as design for print. This will typically include stationery, brochures, catalogues and internal communication materials as well as technical information and forms. Designers in graphic design may specialise in Information Design or Internal Communications.
Product designers will deal with anything that is three dimensional and typically manufactured. This may include components of larger designs, complete products, consumer goods and even 3D structural packaging. They may have engineering support in-house and will be able to deliver a set of CAD drawings ready for tooling and production.
Service Design: This is a relatively new specialism for agencies. It deals with the development and delivery of a service offer both online and off line. It will cover all aspects of the service from the customer experience to the internal resources required to support the service on a day-to-day basis.
Wayfinding & Environmental Graphics: Wayfinding works out how people should move in, out and around an environment, then formalises the findings into a scheme that defines all the elements required. These elements are centred on environmental graphics that encompass signs as well as associated colour, texture, lighting, furniture and architecture.
Internal Communications designers specialise in developing solutions for delivering information and behavioural changes to the staff within an organisation. This may involve both graphic and digital design.
Exhibition design covers design outputs required to promote a product or service in a designated space. This could be a stand at a trade show or a small booth at a local networking event. In some cases it may also include the development and construction of the final design.
